Network

A group of two or more computer systems linked together.
There are many kinds of networks including...

1.) local-area networks (LANs): the computers are geographically close together (that is, in the same building).

2.) wide-area networks
(WANs): The computers are farther apart and are connected by telephone lines or radio waves.

READER FEEDBACK...

A reader asks...

"Is that fish in yesterday's PIC a picture of a real fish?"

It's not only a real fish, it's a live fish.

I visited my friend, Mark, who has a huge fish tank in his family room.  It's filled with beautiful tropical fish... large ones.

I tried and tried to take some pics of the constantly moving creatures with my digital camera but the auto focus was continually being confused by the glass and the water.  All the pics were out of focus.  I finally gave up and let Chris, my friend's 12 year old son, play with the camera.  A short while later Chris calls me over to his computer and proudly shows the fish he "caught" with the digital camera.

WEEKLY IN DEPTH...

Note: this Domain Name info will remain here for the entire week.

Our New Home
www.ComputerGuyNY.com

We moved.  With a normal online account (AOL, Earthlink, etc.) you get space on your ISP's (Internet Service Provider's) server (computer) to create a web site.  Most people don't even use this space.

My space was located at http://home.earthlink.net/~MisterAguy

I decided to purchase a DOMAIN NAME (a DOT COM name).  I chose the name 'ComputerGuyNY.com'  There is a global nonprofit company that sells and manages these domain names for a $35 annual fee.  The great part is that nobody else in the entire world can have this same name.

My new space is now located at http://www.ComputerGuyNY.com

My ISP, Earthlink, "hosted" this new domain name (for an additional monthly fee).  So now I have two places on the WEB where I can display a web site.  The obvious advantages to a "dot com" (.com) site name are that it's easier for people to remember the website name and it's more "professional".

The new email address is Adam@ComputerGuyNY.com (ain't that kewl?).  But the old email address of MisterAguy@earthlink.net will still work too.

Remember the name, folks... www.ComputerGuyNY.com (and don't forget the NY at the end).  And pass it in to your friends.  They can learn a little bit more about computers each day as they visit.

I'll be adding alot of new features in the future.  Stay tuned.

So, gang, WELCOME HOME!!!
