Multimedia

The use of computers to present text, graphics, video, animation, and sound in an integrated way. Long touted as the future revolution in computing, multimedia applications were, until the mid-90s, uncommon due to the expensive hardware required. With increases in performance and decreases in price, however, multimedia is now commonplace. Nearly all PCs are capable of displaying video, though the resolution available depends on the power of the computer's video adapter and CPU.

Because of the storage demands of multimedia applications, the most effective media to store graphics and sounds are CD-ROMs.

READER FEEDBACK...

A reader asks...

Q.   "I've heard about "wireless" email that allows me to get and send my email as I'm walking down the street.  Where can I find out more about this?"

A.   There are many wireless services out there.  You can start by checking out what Earthlink (a very large Internet Service Provider) is offering.  Just click HERE to get more info.

Stealing Pics and Songs

Although I have outlined the procedure for "stealing" any of the graphic or midi song files that exist at the ComputerGuyNY site (or any other site, for that matter), it's worth repeating here in our Weekly In Depth column.

To save any graphic or song to your hard drive just follow these steps:

1.  RIGHT-CLICK (the right mouse button) on the picture or on the song link

2.  From the resulting menu, choose "save image as" or (for the songs) "save link as"

3.  In the resulting window, take note of where (folder name) the pic/song will be saved and take note of the name of the pic/song

4.  Click on the SAVE button

5.  Anytime you want to see/hear what you saved, go to the folder to which you saved it and double click on the file name

6.  If you forget where you saved it, you can find it with the Window's FIND feature.  Go to START >> FIND >> FILES OR FOLDERS and type in any part of the filename and click on FIND (or hit the enter key on your keyboard)

HINT: Create a folder on you desktop called PICS and another called SONGS and save (or copy) your pics and songs to the appropriate folder.  It'll be very easy to find them when you want them.

Any questions?
