Digital
Photography

The art and science of producing and manipulating digital (computerized) photographs.

Digital photographs can be produced in a number of ways:

1. Directly with a digital camera
2. By capturing a frame from a video
3. By scanning a conventional photo

Once a photograph is in digital format, you can apply a wide variety of special effects to it with image enhancing software. You can then print the photo out on a normal printer or send it to a developing studio which will print it out on photographic paper.

COMPUTER NEWS BRIEF...

YAHOO! Embarrassed

Tribune Media Services   (April 24, 2001) - In an era when most dot-coms were acting like little kids, Yahoo! always seemed a little more mature-- like the cool teenager everyone wanted to know.

So I guess we'll have to blame an attack of hormones for the site's recent flirtation with pornography, an episode that threatened to tarnish what is arguably the most powerful brand name the Internet ever invented.

News leaked out earlier this month that Yahoo! had opened an online store stocked with hardcore DVDs and videotapes. The notion seemed about as likely as Bob Barker cutting a rap album, but it turned out to be true-- for a few days, at least.

Suddenly, the caterwauling "yahoooooo" heard in the company's radio and TV ads took on a decidedly different tone.

Yahoo! reacted quickly to the inevitable complaints, pulling its new store offline only days after it debuted. It also pledged to stop selling ad banners to porn sites, cutting off what was likely a significant source of revenue in hopes of purifying its image.

WEEKLY IN DEPTH...

Note: the following computer info will remain here for the entire week.

INTERNET RADIO

Internet radio broadcasting covers everything from a 12 year old "transmitting" his own radio program via his personal computer to the largest worldwide commercial radio networks.

"Live" and taped broadcasts from the farthest corners of the globe in almost every language are available at the click of a mouse.  Want news?  Want 50's music? Want discussion?  You name the language, the type (genre), the country.

Although there are many free services that allow you to choose the kind of radio that you want to hear, the easiest place to start is with the built in radio tuner that comes with REALPLAYER.

The audio (and video) "streaming" programming technology called REALPLAYER usually is automatically installed in modern computers.  Don't know if you have it installed?  No problem... just click HERE to go to the REALPLAYER RADIO site and then try to listen to some streaming audio/video.  If you don't have RealPlayer installed, it'll tell you.

If you don't have it installed, you can get the free version of this software (RealPlayer 8 Basic) HERE at the REALPLAYER DOWNLOAD PAGE.

All set to listen to radio from around the world?  OK.  Go to the REALPLAYER RADIO TUNER page and then choose the type (genre) or language or city or country that you want to listen to.

Don't get upset if some of the stations are not available.  Just try a different station.

Of course, the faster your computer and connection speed, the better your reception will be.

And don't forget to send us an email about the good stations that you've found.  I'll share your info with the rest of our readers.
