A reader asks...
Q. "Hey, that ARCHIVES that you sent yesterday is really good. Now I don't have to be so concerned when I miss a day of ComputerGuyNY Report. I can go to the ARCHIVES and read the one that I missed. I also went to the collection of ANIMATED GIFS but it took a long time to load."
A. I'm Glad that the ARCHIVES is useful to you. Each date represents the entire contents of that day's ComputerGuy Report.
As more and more ANIMATED GIFS are added to the animated gif archive, it obviously takes longer and longer to completely load. My suggestion is to let it all load and then copy to your hard drive all of the gifs that you like.
P.S. - If you ever want to go back to the ARCHIVES, here's how to get there... there is a secret link near the counter. Go down to the COUNTER. Next to the counter is a cute graphic that shows a spinning counter. It looks like this... . Click on that spinning counter and you'll be transported to the ARCHIVE page.

New Windows Opening In October
TechWeb (May 9, 2001) - Microsoft Corporation said Wednesday it will launch the newest version of its Windows computer operating system Oct. 25, ending recent speculation that the software might be delayed past the crucial holiday shopping season.
Microsoft said it will back the product, called Windows XP, with a huge marketing campaign that will double the size of the launch of Windows 95 in the first four months alone.
Previously, Microsoft had said Windows XP would go on sale in the second half of the year. The software will be sold in a Home Edition for consumers and a Professional Edition for businesses, Microsoft said in a statement on its website.
Windows XP is based on the same programming technology that underpins Windows 2000, which is more stable and secure than the old DOS technology in consumer versions.
WEEKLY IN DEPTH...
Note: the following computer info will remain here for the entire week.
The PRINT SCREEN key
Why doesn't that Print Screen (PrtScr, Print Scrn) key do anything?
The Print Screen button was carried over from the early days of computers. Back then, pressing the button would send the lines of text displayed on your screen straight to your printer. This method worked nicely until the invention of the graphical user interface (Windows).
Using this key is great for copying error messages that appear on your screen. You can get help with solving your problem if you show or read the exact error message to your tech support person.
To make Print Screen work you must COPY an image of what's displayed on-screen to the clipboard and then PASTE it into a document where it can be printed.
To do this, follow these directions:
1. Have on your screen whatever you'd like to capture (copy).
2. To capture (copy) the entire screen, just press the Print Scrn key. This will copy the screen to your Windows Clipboard
3. Open the Windows PAINT program (START >> PROGRAMS >> ACCESSORIES >> PAINT) or any other graphic display program
4. Paste the screen shot by holding down CTRL and V at the same time (or got to EDIT >> PASTE).
5. SAVE and/or PRINT the results (exact duplicate of the screen that you were looking at).
