PS/2 Port

A type of port developed by IBM for connecting a mouse or keyboard to a PC. The PS/2 port supports a mini DIN plug containing just 6 pins. Most PCs have a PS/2 port so that the serial port can be used by another device, such as a modem. The PS/2 port is often called the mouse port.

READER FEEDBACK...

A reader asks...

Q.    "I sometimes see some good deals on the WEB but I'm concerned about doing business with a company that I've never heard of.  How can I check out whether a company is reputable?"

A.    Here's a website that evaluates online vendors based upon customer satisfaction.  Online retailers are rated with a point scale as well as with comments by customers.  Check it out by clicking on the link below.

COMPUTER NEWS BRIEF...

Internet Becoming Preferred Info Source

NewsLinx (May 14, 2001) -  More than 60 percent of the respondents to a survey chose the Internet for personal and special interest information needs.

The study also revealed that once consumers begin using the Web, they use it more frequently as their experience increases, and that these same users also tend to use traditional media sources significantly less.

The research shows that exposure and experience with the Web is changing consumers' fundamental attitude toward traditional media.

Nine out of ten (91 percent) people with a TV in the same room where the Internet is used most often said they watched and surfed simultaneously.

The study was based on more than 2,000 interviews from adults 18 or older who had accessed the Internet in the past 30 days.

WEEKLY IN DEPTH...

Note: the following computer info will remain here for the entire week.

Find Files Fast

Have you ever downloaded a program, only to find you weren't paying attention to where it was being stored?  Have you lost a copy of a crucial document or resume?

Chances are that they are still on your hard drive.  Without spending precious time to investigate each folder on your system, you can quickly uncover those lost files in no time at all.

To find files fast, follow these steps:

1.  Hold down the Windows keyboard button and the "F" button at the same time, or click on the Start menu and locate "Find" (in Windows ME it's "Search") then "Files or Folders."

2.  In the "Name" field, type the name of the file you'd like to find (or any part of the name).

3.  In the "Look In" field, select "My Computer."

4.  Hit "Find now."

5.  This will bring up a list of all the files on your computer containing the text that you had typed.

Happy hunting.
