Gobble In
Gobble Out

Often abbreviated as GIGO, this is a famous computer axiom meaning that if invalid data is entered into a system, the resulting output will also be invalid.

Ok.  I'm really stretching it.  Actually, the expression is "GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT".

I temporarily changed it in honor of Thanksgiving.

Sorry.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE...

.What did the mother turkey say to her naughty children?...

... "If your father could see you now, he'd turn over in his gravy."

COMPUTER NEWS BRIEFS...

We Gather Together
"This is the kind of holiday we need right now, an intrinsically complicated one that comes at the end of a bitter harvest and yet finds something sweet to celebrate. Everyone is a pilgrim now, stripped down to bare essentials and a single carry-on bag to sustain us in a strange new world."

Proclamation by the President
"As we recover from the terrible tragedies of September 11, Americans of every belief and heritage give thanks to God for the many blessings we enjoy as a free, faithful, and fair-minded land."

Don’t Pardon the Turkey
"Americans consume upwards of 240 million domestic turkeys a year, but they also consume about twice that many chickens. We don't honor chickens by granting them life. And we certainly should not honor the overweight domestic turkey in such a manner."

Cross-Country Connections
"September 11 is still close enough to us ... that we're still appreciating the importance of connections between people and family members probably in a way we haven't ever before."

75th Macy's Thanksgiving Parade To Go Ahead
"With New York firefirefighters regarded as the city's top heroes after the Sep 11 World Trade Center attacks, Harold the Fireman, a recreation of a favorite balloon character in 1948, can expect a hero's welcome."

WEEKLY IN DEPTH...

ScreenSavers
(Download your free Turkey-Shoot Screensaver below.)

Originally, screensavers actually "saved" your monitor screen.

Early monitors were susceptible to screen "burn".  If a business computer continuously displayed an invoice form on the computer screen it would eventually "burn" into the screen and you'd see a "ghost" of the invoice form even after you turned off the computer.

Screensavers allowed a constantly changing pattern on the screen to prevent a constant image from "burning" itself on to the monitor screen.

Current monitor technology prevents this problem from happening but people have come to love their amusing screensavers.

Here's a cute TURKEY SHOOT screensaver that'll keep you busy over the holiday.  Just click on the link below to download it...

thanksgivingshoot.exe

Take note of the location to which you download the above EXE file.  After it's downloaded, double click on it and it will automatically install.

To choose the Thanksgiving Shoot-out screensaver, right-click on any empty spot on your Windows Desktop and then choose PROPERTIES from the resulting menu.  From the DISPLAY PROPERTIES window, click on the SCREENSAVER tab and click on the little triangle that allows you to scroll down to the THANKSGIVING SHOOT-OUT screensaver.

Feel free to click on the SETTINGS button to change how the screensaver behaves.  Then click on OK.

P.S. - When you get tired of shooting turkeys, hit the ESC to get out of the screensaver.

Enjoy!
